GELANAZ HEMATI

Artist & Interior Architect

At the age of 10, Gelanaz Hemati embarked on a lifelong journey of artistic expression, delving into the realms of drawing and painting under the guidance and inspiration of the esteemed artist Abbas Katouzian. The invaluable teachings acquired from this master during early formative years laid the foundation for a diverse and enriching artistic expedition that continues to define Gelanaz’s identity as an artist to this day.

Exploring an array of mediums, including oil colors, color pencils, watercolors, ink, and markers, Gelanaz avidly sought to expand artistic boundaries and refine craftsmanship. Pursuing studies in architecture at university, a revelation dawned upon discovering the transformative potency of manual sketching. This newfound skill not only became integral to academic pursuits but also fostered the confidence to swiftly and effectively communicate ideas—an unsuspected cornerstone of Gelanaz’s artistic persona.

Upon completing postgraduate studies and entering the professional sphere as an architect and interior designer, a profound urge emerged to impart artistic knowledge to future generations. Thus commenced a teaching journey marked by immense joy in mentoring budding artists and students in the intricacies of hand sketching.

Urban sketching emerged as a profound avenue for delving into the complexities of cities, cultures, societies, and human behavior. Through these sketches, Gelanaz unearthed a potent medium for expressing emotions, thoughts, and concepts, capturing the essence of the surrounding world.

In addition to professional and teaching pursuits, Gelanaz proudly participated in numerous group exhibitions in Toronto, showcasing artistic prowess to a wider audience. Since 2017, a bold shift occurred—transforming paintings into functional art by printing them onto cushion covers. This innovative approach seamlessly integrated artwork into interior spaces, establishing a harmonious interplay between throw pillows and wall paintings.

Continuously evolving and broadening artistic horizons, Gelanaz now finds gratification in teaching online classes to a global audience. The ability to connect with students worldwide and share the passion for drawing and painting has become an abundant source of fulfillment.

Gelanaz Hemati — an experienced artist and interior architect— embarked on an artistic journey rooted in childhood adoration for art, flourishing into a multifaceted exploration of colors, fine lines, and the limitless avenues of creative expression.
